Indian weddings are royal, colourful and a celebration of fun and life. There’s nothing quite as exhausting, action-packed or crazy as a big fat Indian wedding! We love the whole planning process – right from the time a couple approaches us for inspiration and plans, to the actual execution and the beautiful wedding day. During the course of our experience as wedding planners in Bangalore, we’ve compiled 7 of the most inspiring, beautiful Indian wedding themes we’ve come across.

  • Peacock Theme: Apart from being our National bird, the peacock is an image of beauty, colour, life and royalty. A peacock-themed wedding would use an indigo blue colour palette. The mandap can use peacock blue colour schemes, with royal cushions and a beautiful swing. The peacock feather motif would be featured on the invites, and can even be put instead of a corsage for the groom at the reception. Add royal elements like satin cushions, richly decorated curtains and lovely table settings around the theme.

  •  Moroccan theme: Think jewel-toned fabrics, metal lanterns, soft candle lighting and lots of gold detailing. Set up an ornate chandelier as the centrepiece of the event. Gift boxes and sweet boxes can be inspired by jewelled Moroccan handcrafts. For your guests, you could even install hookah corners at the bar counter – comfortable lounges with lots of cushions, stained glass handicrafts and lively music to instill a Middle-Eastern mood.

  • Royal theme: Ever dreamed that you were a princess, and your wedding would take place in a gorgeous palace? We love the idea of wedding planning for a royal theme, complete with elephants, a palanquin and bursts of fireworks during the celebrations. The Leela Palace in Bangalore is the perfect setting. Stunning pillar columns, beautiful gardens for an outdoor wedding banquet, rich drapes and elephant motifs reign when you go for this wedding theme.

  • Vintage/retro theme: Choose your favourite era from the past – from the 50s to the 80s and think about the kind of look you’d like. There’s international vintage, and also old-world Bollywood vintage to choose from. You can incorporate lots of whimsical elements including little touches to the decor with a photo booth that has retro photo frames and props to choose from, a vintage car like a classic Beetle or VW van for photoshoots, and a rustic outdoor daytime buffet. You could also include ornate candelabras with crystals, lamp centrepieces, birdcage veils and so on that can be easily sourced from antique or thrift shops.

  • Carnival circus theme: This is one of the most unique themes you could ever use with a fun twist. Indian weddings are in any case so theatrical – we have the huge tents, the centrestage or the mandap and lots of colour and celebration. There’s so many exciting ways to execute this theme, from circus-themed shaadi tents, fun circus games with a retro twist, to street snack-style buffets and candy bars.

  • Sparkle theme: It’s your day to shine, so why don’t you consider a sparkle themed wedding? Gold goes with a lot of rich colours like purple and green, and it would be lovely to experiment with these colours in the invitations, add candles to each table for beautiful lighting effects, and drape the mandap in shades of gold, green, purple or red. The sparkle factor is key here, so the bride can also match her outfit to the theme of the occasion, with custom zardozi elements, and a touch of glamour in her overall look.

  • Lotus theme: The Lotus theme has started gaining a lot of popularity lately, due to the image of tradition mixed with grandeur that it gives. Wedding planners everywhere have started thinking creatively about using the lotus motif. The Sangeet ceremony could include a lovely floating candle arrangement, and the pathway leading to the venue of the jaimala could also have a grand entry path. The key is to use the theme to create memorable centrepoints in each ceremony for the wedding.

Wedding Planners always find it challenging while at the same time a lot of fun when it comes to themed weddings. Every idea, every element and every tiny detail is tied in to the central theme and the planning and execution becomes a lot more fun.

Wedding planning can be very hassling and can turn any good-natured person into a bridezilla. Well then you can magine what it would be like planning for celebrities, who usually have million dollar weddings. This week, Kim Kardashian, described by Vogue as a ‘pop culture icon’ married Kanye West, one of the most famous rappers today. The event was a luxurious extravaganza but at the same time an intimate affair in a Renaissance fortress in Florence, Italy. One can only wonder at how much planning went into the event. That’s why we’ve brought you a few key pointers that we can learn about wedding planning from Kim Kardashian’s wedding.

  • Start in advance: Whether it’s the first time you’re getting married or not, it will always be a very special day. Planning should ideally begin at least a year in advance – considering all the preparations required. There’s the venue selection, booking, hiring decorators, entertainment and a lot more. For their lavish $2.8 million wedding, Kim and Kanye definitely planned well, with celebrity wedding planner Jinane Kafrouny. For Indian weddings, wedding planning can be even more exhausting. There are so many ceremonies to think of and so many outfits for the bride to wear. This is why you should have a budget estimate and a venue down at least a year to 8 months in advance.
  • Have a special venue: It’s not uncommon today for couples to get married at a place that holds a special significance for them. Whether it’s the city where you first met or a certain day it’s always nice to have it at a special venue. Kim Kardashian had her wedding at a Renaissance fortress called the Forte di Belvedere, which is where they spent a beautiful vacation together during their early courting days.
  • Pamper yourself for your big day: While most of us wouldn’t get to spend $550 on a vegan stem cell facial, whether you’re the bride or the groom, you should make the most of the wedding. Get rid of your wedding worries by taking a couple spa treatment, or if you’re the bride, gift yourself a day’s worth of pampering at the salon before your wedding ceremonies. Don’t feel guilty about that seaweed body wrap; the stress of the days and ceremonies will make you thank yourself for this later.
  • Simple can also be luxurious: Kim and Kanye got married with a backdrop of a wall of white roses. While the backdrop in itself would have cost a lot, it just goes on to show that flowers can also be luxurious and elegant. Think about the things you both like, the themes, elements and colours that just feel right and use them in a lovely way for your wedding decor.11
  • Intimate gathering: It can be tempting to call everyone you know because you’re getting MARRIED! However, sometimes even an intimate gathering can be very special, with your closest friends and family. Kim K’s wedding was no exception, with mostly close family and friends in attendance at their very special venue. Besides, wedding planning can take into account so much more and customize when it’s only your loved ones.
  • Separate photography and videography: Get the best of both and hire a photographer and a videographer. You can get candid moments on video and have photographers to snap up cozy and creative pictures of you and your family, friends and the wedding details.
